Getting Around of Central Vietnam

The Central of Vietnam is located by some attraction destinations for tourists: Hue – imperial citadel, royal tombs and excellent street food; Hoi An – the unique heritage grace of riverside jewel ; Da Nang – the city boasts an impressive skyline while resorts and hotels line up along the coast; Phong Nha nation park – the extraordinary region, home to three gargantuan cave systems (including the world’s largest cave – Son Doong); Da Lat – the city’s temprate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam’s otherwise tropical climate. Mist covering the valleys almost year-round leads to its name “City of Eternal Spring”; and a fascinating war history concealed amid stunning scenery in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). There are also a lots other places for you to explore such as: Nha Trang, Mui Ne, Da lat, Quy Nhon, Vinh,…depend on your budget, your time or your travel style.

How to get around Central of Vietnam?

Most of travels takes places on the roads around  Vietnam. The Highway 1 runs from Ha Noi to Ho Chi Minh city passing through all of provinces in Central.  The railway run alongside Highway 1, and their sleeper berths are far more comfortable than buses for longer journeys.  Almost big cities in Central have their airport for your choice to fly if you want to save your time on short trip or for your healthy. Besides, which some destinations were visited by small boat like Phong Nha ( Quang Binh), Huong river ( Hue).

Plane

The Airline

As the third biggest airports, Da Nang Airport in Da Nang, accepts a far smaller number of international flights. Over a dozen other domestic airports are scattered across Central Vietnam and each airport has flights to Ha Noi (Noi Bai international airport) and Ho Chi Minh city (Tan San Nhat international airport).

 

You can turn to the Central of Vietnam by plane from Ha Noi in the North, Ho Chi Minh city in the South to any local airports or from oversea to Da Nang but just some of international flights.

Vietnam Airlines is Vietnam’s national carrier. It is covering domestic network and growing like a international carrier. Jetstar and Vietjet Air are domestic carriers with more limited network.

A growing number of international carriers are now flying to Vietnam such as Air Asia, United, Thai, Cathay Pacific, Air France, Quatar Airline, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines,…

The ticket

All of the airlines carriers are providing an online booking service, there’s plenty of choice and booking in advance is easy. Also booking offices are in all provinces and cities with an airport,  be sure that the addresses and phone numbers in your notebook.

With a tight budget, you should choose the beginning and the end of tourism reason ( March and April, or September and October) offer you the best deals for flight tickets to Vietnam. You may save 5-10 % or sometimes 30% compared to the price in the tourism season. Sometimes you can get the flash deals or discount deals from the airlines to encourage people to travel.

In other months, the price may be more expensive, especially in the summer and Tet holiday. Summer in the Central of Vietnam lasts from May to late August, with various tourism activities in many destinations and attracts a considerable number of travelers. During Christmas and Tet holiday, it is quite hard to get the flight ticket also, especially before and after Tet holiday. Not only the tourists use airplane to travel, but also the Vietnamese who come back hometowns with their family, leading to over-booking on most domestic flights and international flights to Central of Vietnam.

On the roads

Traffic drives on the right in Vietnam so there is a reasonable road network along country. The roads in the Central are narrow and simple, not too crowded like Ho Chi Minh city or Ha Noi so it is more easy for you to get there.

By Car

Rental cars for long distance travel are yet to be popularised in Vietnam, and seeing the state of the traffic it’s easy to see the reason why.  But if you’ve got the budget for it, going by car is the good way to get experiences by yourself. You can go wherever you want and don’t forget your international driver’s license holds up.

 

When going by private car means you can set your own schedule and stop at places like: Cua Lo beach, Phong Nha national park,  Bach Ma National Park, Lang Co Beach, Hue city and atop Hai Van Pass in the Central North; Da Nang, Hoi An town, My Son, Nha Trang beach, Mui Ne beach in the Central South and turn up to Central Highland to visit Buon Ma Thuat city, Da Lat city.

By Bus

Vietnam has an extensive network of buses that reach the far-flung corners of the country. Going by local bus is the best way to meet Vietnamese people and learn the local language or know more some Vietnamese culture, but it can be too overwhelming for some

From the town center you can take the local buses at stations or bus-stops, make sure that you check the schedule of bus and your next destination, the number or the name of bus before you jumping into.

Modern buses, operated by many companies, run on all the main roads. Most routes now have tickets with fixed prices and the quality of services quite good with water, wet tissue, air-condition and wifi; for long distance, sleeper bus is the best choice.

Another option, the open tour buses run the length of Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city passing most popular places in the Central such as Da Lat, Mui Ne, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Nang and Hue. Don’t need to book soon, just before the day ahead. The ticket price is dependent on where you choose to stop, you can buy one for longest distance and drop off wherever you want along their stop places, that ticket is limited for a month. For example, your ticket is from Ho Chi Minh city to Hue, so  you can stop in Nha Trang few days and turn to Hoi An before the last stop.

By motorbike/ Scooter

Vietnam is known as land of motorbikes, traveling Vietnam by motorcycle always brings exciting experiences , new and extremely surprised. You can enjoy the perfect setting roadside along coastline in the Central on two wheels; comfort stop taking pictures and chatting with local people, you can visit small alleys or some roads not for car, to discover Vietnamese culture & history while enjoying Vietnamese food.

If you can ride scooter, rent one for short trip or in the city, buy one for long trip, remember to check everything over carefully, especially brakes, lights and horn. They are cheap and you can sell the them before you leave.

But riding motorbike is quite dangerous if you don’t really know the methods how it works. The best choice is sitting back of the motorbike. Let rider take you to enjoy the view, to see how local people living. There are many motorbike taxi in every places, you have to tell them where you want to go and bargain for good price before you go with them, some local riders can’t speak English, it is challenge in your trip. More easier for you to book the scooter tour, following with their schedules or ask them to change some destinations on your list. The price for the motorbike tour isn’t expensive comparing with car or bus tours.

By bicycle

The Central of Vietnam can be a great destination for cyclists, sightseeing the picturesque landscape of long and flat coastline  with awesome beaches, beautiful rice fields,  impressive passes cutting through cloud like Hai Van pass, Ngang Pass, Ca Pass, Lang Co; even in Hinghland and ancient towns Hue or Hoi An.

Besides, small boats are still using in the Central along Huong river (Hue), Hoi An, Phong Nha nation park for travelers.
