Cuisine of Southern Vietnam


Southern culture is associated with the wet rice cultivation, this vast area is flat, flooded and fertile. The main food is rice, fish, meat and vegetables. From that abundance, the food and drinks of the Southern people are various of local specialties. Therefore, they can create a unique cuisine from simple ingredients.

Most of the South people have the origin from many different areas in Vietnam, they migrate to work or study here. Hence, Southern cuisine has a blend of North, Central and the influence of Khmer culture. In addition, southern cuisine is also influenced by Chinese, Cambodian, and Thai cuisines, typically adding sugar and using coconut juice.
